Right Proper Brewery Virtual Tour & Tasting

Register for event >

Event capacity: 50

Suggested donation supporting the university’s COVID-19 response and student financial aid: $35

See what’s brewing at Right Proper Brewing Company! Right Proper Brewing Company started as a vision centered around D.C. as a hometown, with each neighborhood defined by a different culture. Join Thor Cheston (C’01), co-founder and co-owner, for a virtual tour of this D.C.-inspired brewery. Cheston will guide you through the brewery, sharing Right Proper’s brewing philosophy and their process from grain to tap. After the tour, he will lead the group through a tasting of two beers.

What you’ll need

DMV Residents: Feel free to pick up Diamonds, Fur Coat, Champagne (Sour Berliner Weisse), and Raised by Wolves (Dry Hopped Pale Ale) at Whole Foods, our local liquor store, or at Right Proper Brewery (Shaw or Brookland) to participate in the virtual tasting portion of the experience.

Thor Cheston

Thor Cheston (C’01) is the co-founder and co-owner of Right Proper Brewing Company in Washington, D.C. While studying for the MCAT exam after graduating from Georgetown University, Cheston confessed to his family that he did not want to be a doctor. Instead, he wanted to follow passion for beer, with the ultimate goal of owning his own brewery. In 2013 — after turning an underutilized basement at Pizzeria Paradiso Georgetown into a specialty beer bar, assisting in opening Brasserie Beck in D.C., and being inducted into the Knighthood of the Brewers’ Mashtaff in Belguim — Cheston opened his own brewpub in the historic Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. His family-friendly neighborhood restaurant, equipped with a 5 bbl brewhouse, was immediately embraced by the local community. In December 2015, building on the success of the brewpub, Cheston and his partners built a 4,500 bbl capacity production facility in the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, D.C. so Right Proper beers could be sold to retail and off-premise accounts throughout D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. When not at the brewery, Cheston is usually spending time with his wife, Leah, and their daughter Olivine.

About Georgetown Summer Sessions

Join us for our new alumni virtual experiences program, Summer Sessions! Summer Sessions showcase Hoya alumni chefs, artists, entertainers, athletes, florists, entrepreneurs, and more, all through curated, live Zoom sessions.

Each alumni host is sharing a talent while bringing together our Hoya community to support the university. Your participation in these experiences provide you with a light and lively activity during the summer and, through the suggested donation, directly and immediately strengthen your alma mater.

Donations received as part of Summer Sessions alumni virtual experiences will support the 90 Days with Georgetown initiative and Georgetown’s two crucial priorities: the university’s COVID-19 response and student financial aid.

Stay tuned, new experiences will be added weekly! Join fellow Hoyas for a Summer Session this July & August!
