SUMMARY:The World of Art: Navigating and Collecting in Today's Market
DESCRIPTION:Register for event >\nEvent capacity: 25 \nSuggested donation supporting the university’s COVID-19 response and student financial aid: $25 \nDuring a global pandemic\, the art market continues to thrive with fairs and galleries increasing their digital footprints and many performing better than ever. During Sotheby’s first virtual auction\, live-streamed without an audience in June\, a triptych by Francis Bacon sold for over $84 million\, surpassing pre-sale estimates after an 11-minute bidding war. Join Astrid Oviedo Clark (C’90) of AOC Art Advisory for an in-depth discussion on how to make the most of today’s unusual art market\, just in time for the kickoff of fall’s global art season. Drawing from over 25 years of experience\, Clark will offer insights into the art world and its $67.4 billion art market. She will share how to navigate the competitive and ever-changing art world\, both virtually and in person\, including collecting with any budget\, the valuation process\, and avoiding common pitfalls. \n  \n\n  \nHost bio\n \nAstrid Oviedo Clark (C’90)\, founder of Astrid Oviedo Clark Art Advisory\, began her career as an archivist for the Leo Castelli Gallery.
